Who We Are

Starting with our very first branch called Hearing Aid Clinic in Claremont way back in 1984, Cape Hearing Aids gradually expanded its Mother City footprint over the years. Today we have seven easily accessible clinical locations in various suburbs.

Our clinical team, who are all HPCSA-registered, have been hand-selected for their expertise and dedicated patient care. Hearing services include free hearing screenings, diagnostic hearing assessments, Tinnitus assessment, wax removal, home visits and an extensive range of hearing aid brands, noise reduction and hearing protection devices.

With a professional and diligent service ethic, our driving force is patient satisfaction on a journey to sharp hearing. And because we simply don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach, we haven’t aligned ourselves with any single brand of hearing aid. This allows our audiologists to provide the best hearing device to suit a client’s particular hearing profile, individual preferences, communication requirements and lifestyle.

At the end of the day, to ensure the best possible outcome, we listen to our patients – because we care.

Karin Barrow Founder

An audiologist of note, Karin spearheaded the founding of CHA in 1984. Spending years building up the business to one of the foremost audiology businesses in Cape Town, she’s had a lifelong zeal for giving the hearing-impaired the quality of life that only good hearing can bring about.

Quite the epicure, she grabs every opportunity to whip up mouthwatering dishes in the kitchen. As an animal lover, Karin also fosters dogs for pet rescue organisation, African Tails.

Alan Welsford Partner

Electrical Engineering T4
A serial entrepreneur with many irons in the fire, Alan has been a CHA partner since 1985. Being involved in this audiology business gives him time off from his machine-orientated work, plus he enjoys Karin’s desire to help people. Leisure pursuits include walking his dog, introducing his daughter to the world and taking his Cobra for a drive.

Lisa Shand Century City

B Sc cum laude (UCT)
Lisa joined CHA in 2017 and is passionate about person-centred hearing health through all life stages. Her special interest is diagnostic audiology and hearing aid technology advancements. The pay-off for her is the fact that hearing-impaired people can reconnect with their surroundings. A keen hiker and road-tripper, she loves time off with her family and two dogs.

Neelan Ramjee Claremont

B Sc Aud (UCT)
On discovering the wonderful world of audiology, Neelan said goodbye to accounting. He used this passion to make a positive impact on those with hearing loss – taking the time to learn everyone’s specific needs. A foodie through and through, he spends his spare time in the kitchen learning new recipes and flavours or sampling taste sensations throughout the city.

Antoinette Theron Table View & Goodwood

Having qualified as an audiometrician in 1990, Antoinette has been a CHA veteran since 2003. For many years she worked closely with a leading ENT professor by providing diagnostic testing. She particularly enjoys helping people along in their journey to better hearing. An avid reader and diamond-dotting hobbyist, family and friends are her mainstay.

Mercedes Seemann Melkbosstrand & Sea Point

B Sc (UCT)
Mercedes is an ardent devotee of providing the latest hearing technology paired with exceptional care and service. Daily, she tries to educate as many people as possible about hearing and normalising hearing loss. Apart from travelling, her favourite pastime is walking on the beach with her dog Romeo.
